Myllypuro
Virka-galleriassa (Helsinki 2018) nähty valokuvanäyttely esittelee itähelsinkiläisen lähiön – muuttuvan Myllypuron –urbaania elämää. 11 600 asukkaan Myllypuro näyttäytyy modernistisena esikaupunkina valokuvaaja Sakari Röyskön töissä.
Myllypuro-näyttely ei ole yhteiskuntakriittinen reportaasi, vaikka kuvien aiheina ovatkin lähiön realistinen arki, ihmiset ja ympäröivä luonto. “En koe tätä minään rappiopaikkana. Haluan tuoda esiin, mitä näen”, Röyskö sanoo. Röyskön kuvista välittyy kaunis ja herkkä, graafisten muotojen säestämä paikan todellisuus. Myllypuro-sarja on syntynyt noin vuoden aikana, satunnaisten ja sovittujen kohtaamisten tuloksena. Valokuvissa pääosassa on ihminen ja paikka.
Myllypuro
The photography exhibition presented at Virka Gallery in 2018 explores the urban life of a changing eastern Helsinki suburb: Myllypuro. Home to approximately 11,600 residents, Myllypuro appears in photographer Sakari Röyskö’s work as a modernist suburban environment.
The exhibition Myllypuro is not a work of social critique, even though its subjects include the everyday reality of the suburb, its people, and the surrounding nature. “I don’t see this as a place of decline. I want to show what I see,” Röyskö says. His photographs convey a delicate and quietly beautiful sense of place, shaped by graphic forms and subtle compositions.
The Myllypuro series was created over the course of approximately one year and grew out of both spontaneous and arranged encounters. In the photographs, the central focus is on the relationship between people and place.
